The Follow Through Treatment

OK, it's time for Andy Reid to go. Is there anyone out there who doesn't believe this now? Let's look at some of the Reid blunders over the years. And by the way, none of this is personal. I wholeheartedly acknowledge that he is the best coach the team has ever had. But in this world, it is what have you done for me lately?

1. He's the head coach of a team that is currently 4-10 and one that started out 4-8 a year ago. His fingerprints are all over the team. Coaches. Personnel. And then, of course, there is his coaching. Enough said.

2. Juan Castillo. He hired him when everyone in the NFL knew he wasn't ready for the job. He fired him just when he was becoming adequate. The team was only 3-3 and the offensive and turnover woes were what was killing the team. Why make Castillo a scapegoat. By firing him, you were really firing yourself.

3. Brian Dawkins. Terribly mishandled. Enough said.

4.The wide 9 and Jim Washburn. Whether it was Howie Roseman's idea or not, most of us believe Reid stamped the approval of this move. One year the team did not have linebackers to play with this system. This year, the team did not have safeties who were good enough.

5.  Punting on 4th and 10 against New Orleans. In the 2006 playoffs, Reid elected to punt on 4th and long with 2 minutes and change left in the game, instead of go for it. The team had just converted a 4th and 10 to keep the drive going aided by Jeff Garcia's great throw and Hank Baskett's best catch of his career. The reason? "We didn't have another play for the situation," Reid said at the time. Isn't this the guy who called the 4th and 26 play that Donovan McNabb and Freddie Mitchell converted?
In case you live under a rock, the Eagles never got the ball back and lost to the Saints by less than a touchdown.

6. Terrell Owens. If you are going to sign a questionable character guy that can change the chemistry of your team forever. Keep him happy. By not paying him what he wanted, and letting him holdout and becoming a malcontent, the Birds and Reid lost a whole season. Sometimes, taking a stand doesn't work out.

7.  Miscommunication. How does your quarterback not know a game can end in overtime. Sorry, Andy Reid that's on you.

8. The draft. Let's not look at just one guy. Reid made so many reaches in the first round of the NFL drafts, you would think he lives on his tippy toes.

9. Not resigning Jeff Garcia in 2007. By caring more about McNabb's ego, the team did not go the playoffs in 2007.

10. No punt returner. One year, the team actually entered the season without a punt returner and two different players had muffs costing a game in Green Bay and ultimately a playoff spot.
