Fundraising competition has impressive results

On June 10, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) hosted the grand finale to its 2016 Man and Woman of the Year fundraising competition. A dozen candidates were nominated, and were responsible for fundraising to win the title. $384,000 was raised in the name of finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma with the Man of the Year title going to Bill Hauser and the Woman of the Year title going to Brittany Anderson.

Founded in 2015, The Walnut Club is a community of forward-thinking, ambitious and supportive professional women. Recently, the club celebrated their first anniversary at the Positano Coast in Old City. As Philadelphia takes the national stage and hosts the Democratic National Convention, The Walnut Club will host the Women Making History Celebration and Awards Ceremony on Sunday, July 24.

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” stars were in the Philly area to participate in a charity golf outing at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley. The event benefited CORA Services, a Northeast Philadelphia nonprofit for youths facing academic or behavioral challenges.

Know Your LGBT History

New documentary chronicles the fight for LGBT Rights.

On June 16, 2016, WHYY, Equality Forum and Independence Visitor Center Corporation hosted the national premiere of the film “The Pursuit: 50 Years In The Fight for LGBT Rights.” Guests gathered for a cocktail party before the screening, where the director as well as people featured in the documentary spoke.

Richard Sandoval’s newest venture, Aqimero, opened last month at The Ritz-Carlton with a grand party attended by many of Philadelphia’s fashionable set. A wood-burning grill is the centerpiece of the new restaurant, and the 206-seat restaurant also features a Sushi and Ceviche Bar.

On June 16, nearly 400 friends and fans turned out to the Crystal Tea Room for Joe Conklin’s Philly Sports Roast to watch area luminaries share anecdotes about Howard Eskin and Angelo Cataldi. The sports radio & TV personalities faced blistering abuse from colleagues, athletes, two Philadelphia mayors and each other.  The ribald commentary was all for a good cause. Celebrating the Honigman-Mandia wedding

Philadelphia socialite, and all around nice person, Christie Mandia (formerly Christie Honigman) and Brandon Mandia were married at the Reeds in Stone Harbor earlier this month. About 150 family, and friends gathered including notables like NFL TV’s Colleen Wolfe, Sheena Parveen of NBC10 and Marisa Magnatta of WMMR to wish them well.
